Prizes Awarded to Projects focused on Industrial Hygiene
AIHA local sections do more than act as liaisons between the association and local members. They are also liaisons to the communities in which our members live and work. Recently, the Potomac Section of the AIHA reached out to public and private schools in the Metropolitan Washington DC to further education about Industrial Hygiene by participating in science fairs. Being involved in the science fairs allowed Potomac Section members to encourage students to complete projects in the fields of occupational and environmental health; provide assistance in judging projects; and offer monetary prizes for occupational and environmental health projects.
In addition to the criteria provided by each County for its science fair, the Potomac AIHA Section will judge the occupational and environmental health projects based on how closely they meet the following:
· Creativity in choosing the project design.
· Clarity of the presentation
· Adherence to scientific methods
· Focus on the science behind protection of workers or the community from occupational and environmental health hazards
· Incorporation of the fundamental aspects of occupational and environmental health
