Engineering Committee

Mission

To provide a forum to advance the use of engineering principles for the prevention and control of health hazards and to address emerging issues in support of AIHA interests.

Goals and Objectives

Goal: Assemble, evaluate, and disseminate industrial hygiene information regarding engineering aspects.

Objective #1: Provide education, training, and reference materials on engineering control technologies.

Strategies:

  • Monitor engineering committee-sponsored PDCs and arrange for the introduction of new PDCs.
  • Solicit papers; organize sessions; and provide session arrangers, chairs, and monitors for the AIHce.
  • Revise AIHA publications.
  • Develop new reference materials for AIHA publications.

Objective #2: Coordinate and communicate engineering control and technology information and issues.

Strategies:

  • Coordinate with other industries, government agencies, professional associations, trade associations, labor groups, academia, and others to share information and discuss engineering issues.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other AIHA committees that may be affected by engineering committee initiatives.
  • Maintain expertise to provide guidance on the application of engineering controls in the workplace.
  • Meet at the AIHce and other times as appropriate to discuss committee initiatives.

Objective #3: Promote and recognize achievement in engineering aspects of industrial hygiene.

Strategies:

  • Review the JOEH for engineering aspects papers and select the AIHA Engineering Committee Best Paper Award.
  • During the AIHce, review and select the AIHA Engineering Committee Best Poster Award.
  • Develop and distribute a fact sheet on engineering aspects of industrial hygiene targeted to engineering (chemical, environmental, mechanical, and industrial) students and graduates.
